There’s something extraordinary about how Essie thinks and crafts their nude, neutral and sheer nail polishes: they’re simply, easily, tremendously good.

I fell in love with the Essie nail polishes years ago, with my first color being Haute in the Heat, a bright berry nail polish, and over time, my tastes changed.

I started being ever more interested in sheer pink nail colors, light and sophisticated colors.

And of course, these tastes vary according to the season – I’m way more into nude and brown nail polishes at the moment, and from mocha mousse to greige, espresso and latte nails, I’m here for it all.

Essie Limo-Scene Swatch

Limo-scene is one of the sheer Essie nail colors, a really light chiffon pink color on a somewhat light base.

Not to be mistaken for the Allure nail polish, which has a more yellowish beige undertone, although with one/two coats, they’re really similar.

Above is Limo-scene swatched with three coats – one is enough for every day wear in my experience.

Essie Buy Me a Cameo Swatch

Buy Me a Cameo is one of the only metallic nail polish colors I have from Essie, and the color oscillates between beige and gold.

It’s a perfect Christmas nail color combined with a red polish (Russian Roulette, A List or Wicked work perfectly with it), and not so yellow that it is only Christmas-specific.

Swatched above is Buy Me a Cameo with two coats, the pigmentation is great and switches up a mani in no time – gorgeous with navy blue nail polish, dark purple or, of course, black for a timeless look.

Essie Eternal Optimist Swatch

Eternal Optimist is a rather peachy nude nail color, opaque in two coats, and perfect for skin with warm undertones.

It is one of the most popular Essie nail polishes all year round, easy to wear and combine with lots of brown polishes, like Revlon Basic or Kiko Toffee Charm, from the Power Pro range.

Essie Lady Like Swatch

Lady Like feels like the mauve version of Eternal Optimist, and is one of my absolute mauve nail polishes of all time.

Opaque in two coats, it is cool-toned enough that cool and olive skin can effortlessly wear it on the daily, but it’s also a perfect fall Essie nail color.

If you like shimmery nails, though, Demure Vix is another option, with very slight shine that almost gives the mauve a duochrome effect.

Essie Clothing Optional Swatch

There are not many brown Essie nail polishes on the market that can be worn on a daily basis, without undertones too yellow that they become fall nail colors, like Playing Koi.

Clothing Optional is one of these brown polishes, opaque in just two coats, and boasts a slightly mauve undertone: it feels like Lady Like, only more brown, and darker.

These are but some of the nude nail polishes I’ve been loving lately; as the days get cooler, I find myself wearing more mauve and mid tone to dark nudes.

Now, if you’re also in that fall spirit, reddish brown nail polishes are always in vogue, but I also really like wearing teal blue and purple nail colors at the moment.
