When I was still working at MAC, the Mehr lipstick was one I sold by the dozen, all day long, all week long – it is, after all, one of the most popular MAC lipsticks.

Whoever would be looking for a matte mauve lipstick, not too dark, not too light, not too warm-toned nor too blue-toned, Mehr would be a shade I’d recommend.

Whatever the time of the year; spring to winter, the Mehr lipstick is such a cute mauve shade that it can suit pretty much any skin tone, any outfit, and any season.

Now that this color has been reformulated in the new MACximal Silky Matte lipstick range I’ve recently reviewed, I thought a complete review of the new MACximal Mehr would come in handy.

Since Mehr used to be one of the most popular nude pink MAC lipsticks and the color has been slightly revamped, you might find this article useful if you’re looking into getting this particular color.

Here’s how this review is structured:

  • What makes Mehr different and who it’s most suitable for
  • Two possible lip liner combos with Mehr
  • Comparison of MACximal Mehr vs the former matte Mehr and the MACximal Twig Twist lipstick

MAC Mehr Lipstick: What Makes It Different?

Described as a midtone mauve pink, Mehr is a great shade to have in your stash if:

  • you love matte lipsticks but would like to find a comfortable matte for everyday wear
  • you love pinkish mauve lipsticks and want something really long lasting
  • you find that shades like the beautiful Velvet Teddy lipstick or Thanks It’s MAC are a bit too light for your liking

The Mehr lipstick is one that can work on many different skin tones; in my experience, it tends to look better on fair skin and medium skin without a lip liner to make it work.

This is one of the most popular MAC lipsticks for olive skin and cool skin, although warm and neutral skin tones can also wear it pretty much effortlessly.

MAC Mehr Lipstick and Lip Liner Combos with Soar and Beet Swatches

Above is the MAC Mehr lipstick swatch along with two possible lip combos:

  • MAC Soar lip liner, a mauve lip liner with a darker and more muted shade than Mehr, great on all kinds of skin tones and one of the most popular MAC lip liners for lip combos
  • MAC Beet lip liner, a personal favorite; we have here a dark berry lip liner that, mixed with Mehr, gives a warmer and brighter result especially gorgeous during the fall and winter

Other beautiful MAC lip liners can be used with the Mehr lipstick; Chestnut, a dark brown, and Vino or Cyber World, for a darker mauve/purple result, also work well with this shade.

MAC MACximal Mehr vs Matte Mehr vs MACximal Twig Twist Swatches and Comparison

Now that most of the matte MAC lipsticks and even the Satin lipsticks have been revamped (and are now part of the MACximal Sleek Satin range), it’s interesting to compare new vs old versions.

  • MACximal Mehr vs Mehr (matte): the new version is very slightly darker, slightly more purple and creamier with, still, a matte finish
  • MACximal Mehr vs Twig Twist (MACximal): Twig Twist has slightly more brown undertones, and we have almost the same depth and tone for both

With my fair olive skin, I personally feel that seeing the Mehr lipstick reformulated is a hit – when I first got it, I did not think that way at all, but seeing it work so well on my skin on the daily has made me reconsider.

What used to bother me a bit with the classic matte lipstick Mehr was how bright it looked on me, even with an NW15 skin tone, and having the new shade look a tad darker is more enjoyable.

Now, if you’re looking for something slightly, very slightly more brown, Twig Twist is another great pick, as is the Sweet Deal lipstick, which I feel no one talks about enough.

And for even more brown, truly brown MAC lipsticks, there are some others I’ve been loving lately.

These include Warm Teddy, Cafe Mocha, Whirl, and Viva Equality – all different shades, all different undertones, that can adapt beautifully to many skin tones!

Until next time!
