Love red nail polish – and who better to do it than Essie, one of my ultimate favorite drugstore nail polish brands?

I currently have two of their reds; the now-discontinued Full Blast nail polish, a burgundy shade you can still get online, and this one, Russian Roulette.

Just like the soft duochrome You Do Blue nail polish I’ve already told you all about, I got Russian Roulette at the duty free, on one of my countless trips from Rome to Paris.

And well, the French girl in me is enamored with this bright, summery, yet sophisticated red nail polish.

If you’ve been here on Sammie Etc before, you’ll have noticed a pattern – I have an obsession with a specific type of shade for a while, and then move on to other hues and tones.

Recently, I was all about the gorgeous Essie sheer nail polishes, which include some popular shades like Ballet Slippers and Mademoiselle.

Then, it was all about blue nails, with Aruba Blue and You Do Blue.

And just before my obsession with red nail polish ends, since I’m currently wearing a lot more mint green nail polishes, I really wanted to share this bright red with very slight orange undertones.

The purchase was not random; I’d been trying to find the perfect red nail polish for some time and just when I thought I’d found the Grail with the Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine in Hot Chilli, Russian Roulette came into play.

Swatched are three coats of the Russian Roulette nail polish – two are enough, but as usual, I wanted the undertones to show up as precisely as possible.

The color is glossy, a bright red perfect for any skin tone: whether you have fair olive skin like I do or very dark skin, Russian Roulette is that shade where the orange undertones are so slight than even cool skin can wear it.

Application is smooth; I love applying red nail polish because it’s usually very pigmented and doesn’t need much work to amp up any look, and that’s very much the case here.

I don’t know if we’re the same, but when it comes to nail polishes, I am much more sensitive to names, where I don’t really care when I’m looking to get new lipsticks or eyeshadow palettes.

Since I already loved the matte MAC lipstick in Russian Red, and seem to have a passion for Eastern European beauty brands, you can easily understand why I’d want to get the Essie Russian Roulette nail polish.

There were many more red nail polishes from Essie at the duty free, including A-List and Wicked, but if I was given the choice to get Russian Roulette again or not, I definitely would.

An easy-to-apply, easy-to-wear red nail polish, that’s exactly what we have with Essie Russian Roulette.

I love bright red nails, and although I usually prefer them with a slightly cooler undertone, I’ve found myself wearing this shade often in the past few months.

I alternated a lot between red, blue, and white nails with Essie Blanc, another favorite of mine, and can only recommend Russian Roulette if you’re ever after a reliable red nail polish!
