Gold nail polish isn’t really my thing – silver is, and it’s easy to understand why: with my olive skin, yellowish type of makeup and nails just look mismatched.

Yet, when I was in London a few months ago and came across Essie’s Buy Me a Cameo nail polish, which I had had in my sights for a while, I thought I’d give it a try.

Described as a frosted satin mocha color, it is a gorgeous metallic nude nail color to boast pretty much at all times of the year – keep reading to see the swatches and discover my thoughts about it!

Here’s what Essie says about the Buy Me a Cameo nail polish:

legends were made in this camera-ready frosted satin mocha nail polish. this glazed neutral assures that, for you, there are no small roles.

Why Did I Buy Essie Buy Me A Cameo?

I do love me duochrome and metallic nail polish, but I usually get mine in shades of olive green, teal blue or burgundy.

When it comes to sheer or nude nail polish, though, I like them to be lacquered, without any type of shimmer or glitter, like Of Corset, Mademoiselle or Ballet Slippers.

They just look more sophisticated in my opinion – but since Superdrug had a deal on Essie when I popped by, I just put Buy Me a Cameo in my basket along with Ferris of Them All, Birthday Girl and a few other colors I’d been meaning to get.

Essie Buy Me A Cameo Nail Polish: Application and Thoughts

What I mostly like about Buy Me a Cameo is something that we usually try to avoid with nail polish: the fact that each layer applies streaky.

No matter how many layers you apply – but two, two and a half coats are enough to bring it to full opacity, this soft gold gives a streaky effect, like the Barry M Glazed Sheer nail polishes.

I would hate this effect if we were talking about, say, Not Just a Pretty Face, Lady Like or Clothing Optional – with Buy Me a Cameo, I feel like the streakiness brings an extra depth to what I feel looks a bit bland on my skin tone.

Essie Buy Me A Cameo Nail Polish: Would I Buy Again?

If given the opportunity to purchase Buy Me a Cameo again, I would not do so – it’s just a matter of taste regarding the color, which I don’t feel flatters my skin tone as other nude colors do.

I said at the beginning of this review that warm-toned colors don’t really look good on me, and that’s what I also told you when I compared Lady Like and Eternal Optimist.

However, I do love how Buy Me a Cameo applies, and how the pictures turned out – the swatches would almost make me love it if I put aside the fact that it’s, well, gold.

Gold Nude Nails: Essie Buy Me A Cameo Nail Polish Swatch review

I feel like if you’ve got a somewhat warm skin tone, from fair to medium skin, Buy Me a Cameo would look most beautiful on you.

It would contrast a lot on dark skin, but it could be a nice contrast, and since this particular color isn’t really my jam to begin with, I’ve been using it with black and white nail polish (Essie Blanc, of course!) to create some marble type of nail art.

However, it could also look great blended with Angora Cardi or Island Hopping for fall or Christmas nail designs!

Until next time!
