I’ve been wearing lots of sheer and nude nail polishes lately, as you may have noticed since I can’t stop blabbing about two other popular Essie nail polish shades: Ballet Slippers and Not Just a Pretty Face.

I have a couple of other sheers and pinks I really want to share with you, but for now, on to another favorite of mine: Mademoiselle.

And not just mine, since the Mademoiselle nail polish is a best selling shade amongst the hundreds of colors available in the brand.

Here’s what Essie says about the Mademoiselle nail polish:

Say bonjour to the most classic, grown-up pink. Award-winning and eternally trendy, this sheer nail polish is beloved by all.

Why Did I Buy Essie Mademoiselle?

My first sheer Essie nail polishes were Ballet Slippers and the Gel Couture Of Corset – then, it all went so fast and I was at the cash register one day with many more Essie products.

I had been trying to find the perfect sheer nail polish for some time, including in other brands; the Barry M Sheer Strength collection is another one I wear a lot.

I also really wanted to compare Ballet Slippers vs Mademoiselle, Not Just a Pretty Face and other shades that Essie is famous for.

Just so you know, I have recently written reviews about several other sheers from the brand, like Sugar Daddy, Limo-scene and Allure, and have published my Vanity Fairest swatches if you’d like to discover another really pretty sheer pink.

Essie Mademoiselle Nail Polish: Application and Thoughts

I won’t cut corners or sugarcoat it – the Mademoiselle nail polish is streaky.

Shown on the swatches are four layers.

I usually only apply two coats with sheer nail polishes, but since Mademoiselle, Not Just a Pretty Face, Of Corset and Ballet Slippers are similar with just one or two coats, I wanted you to be able to really see the difference.

I started with one thin coat, a second thicker, then a third.

I could have stopped at three too, but applied four just for that extra smoothness: as we can see on my middle finger and ring finger, there are still parts where Mademoiselle is streaky.

However, I do admit I did apply more than necessary, and with just two/three coats, extra focus and the right pressure on the brush, I probably wouldn’t have had that streaky effect.

Essie Mademoiselle Nail Polish: Would I Buy Again?

Now, that’s a big question – I do love the Mademoiselle nail polish, and wear it quite often along with Not Just a Pretty Face when I want a nice clean effect.

When comparing Mademoiselle with Not Just a Pretty Face, we see that Mademoiselle gives a much whiter, milkier effect.

When comparing Mademoiselle with Ballet Slippers, it gives the same milky nail result, but Ballet Slippers is much whiter.

I would probably buy it again, but since the other two I reviewed recently are less streaky, they are the ones which are on my priority list when finish my bottles.

essie mademoiselle nail polish swatch review - nude pink sheer nail polish

All in all, we’ve got a really pretty nude pink nail polish from Essie: the trick is to apply a really thin coat first, and then, as you apply the next coats, decrease the pressure on your brush to avoid streakiness.

It’s a nice shade to wear whether you want to wear nothing on your face, or a heavy smokey eye look with a wing of burgundy eyeliner, or even just the brightest of summer lipsticks!

Until next time!
