I remember the strength with which I hated nude nail polish a few years ago…

Oh, how the times have changed.

I used to wear the brightest nail polishes I could find from every single brand I could get my hands on, and had a collection of a couple, three hundred colors I used to create quirky nail art designs.

As I grew up, my tastes evolved and I learned to love nude and sheer nail polish as much as I love green, blue and duochrome colors.

Lady Like and Eternal Optimist are two of the nude nail polishes I got last year and have been wearing often – Lady Like in particular – I’m about halfway through the bottle and will get it again as soon as I finish it.

Here’s what Essie says about Lady Like:

etiquette, posture, protocol. did we miss anything? oh, yes, this elegant soft mauve nail polish. this dainty color makes for a proper mani.

And here’s what the brand says about Eternal Optimist:

the future looks brilliant in warm, spiced rose nail polish. steeped in sunshine, this lacquer serves up a glass that’s always half-full.

These two nude nail polishes belong to the pink range, with Lady Like being more of a soft mauve which can suit many skin tones, from really pale to olive, Indian and dark skin.

Eternal Optimist, on the other hand, is that kind of tea rose nail polish, with warmer undertones which may or may not suit olive and cool skin.

By the way, if you’d like to see more swatches, I have already written a complete Essie Lady Like review and one of Eternal Optimist so you can enjoy even more of this soft nude beauty.

I personally feel that on my fair olive skin, Lady Like is better suited as it’s cooler-toned.

Eternal Optimist, with its warm undertones, is still a shade I wear quite often as its formula is great, pigmented and covers the nail in just two coats, like Lady Like.

But if I had to choose nude or mauve nail polishes that suit my skin tone better, it would be Lady Like, definitely, along with shades in its same color family, like Clothing Optional or, even darker, Angora Cardi.

Now, if you’re more the type of person who wants really nude, sheer nail polishes, I would recommend you check out my comparison of Ballet Slippers vs Mademoiselle.

They’re just as gorgeous, and also perfect to wear on a daily basis, no matter whether you wear coral lipstick or clear lipgloss, a smokey eye or something very nude on the eyes.

You’ll hopefully have been able to see the difference between these two nude Essie nail polishes properly with the swatch pictures.

One is clearly more cool-toned than the other, but in terms of tone, they’re pretty much similar.

If you have warm skin, I would probably recommend Eternal Optimist, while Lady Like suits cool and olive skin better.

If you have medium or dark skin, Lady Like would also be a better option where Eternal Optimist, on dark skin, might show up even warmer.

It all depends on your current tastes; both are greatly pigmented, long lasting, and easy to apply, so that’s a great starting point!

Until next time!
