A few years back, I got a couple of Hema nail polish colors when I was still living in Paris, and as I visited friends recently, I decided to pop by one of the branches to see what the makeup collection looked like today.

Little did I know that aside from the regular blue, green and red nail polishes, Hema has released a handful of duochrome nail colors in their range…

Incredible colors at that!

I picked up the four most beautiful shades I laid my eyes on, and thought that since there are few reviews of the Hema makeup products online, a complete review would come in handy.

If you’ve been here before, or on my other blog, The Working Line, you probably already know I am a sucker for nail polish.

Whether it be really cheap collections like the Barry M Gelly Hi Shine nail polishes, or a tad more expensive, I very much enjoy having my nails painted.

Recently, I’ve also gotten a few new shades of the Kiko Power Pro Nail Lacquer range (which I love, love, love!) along with a couple of new Essie nail polishes to complete my collection.

However, what I did not expect was to fall utterly in love with each and every one of the Hema nail polish colors.

Had I had more makeup budget, I would have gotten many more of these 4 euro beauties at the time, but since three of these are duochrome, I am more than satisfied with the shades I’ve picked.

PS. I’ve actually gone back to Hema some time ago to get more of these, which include the gorgeous 997 Green Dragon and 908 Pink Sunrise, two beautiful colors for fall!

Hema Nail Polishes I’ve Picked Up

Hema Nail Polish in 101 Girl with the Pearl

The Hema nail polish in 101 Girl with the Pearl is a simple pearly champagne nail polish, which at first sight looks a tad unassuming.

However, as soon as you move your nail and the light starts to play on the nail polish, you can spot tender teal and pink reflects which make it easy to wear on the daily, but still interesting.

For the swatches on the fake nails, I have used three layers, and four layers on my own nails – although two layers would be enough for a slightly sheer effect.

Hema Nail Polish in 951 Pleasing Purple

The Hema nail polish in 951 Pleasing Purple is one of the first I spotted at the makeup stand; this looks very much like the Barry M Under the Sea polish which was released as a limited edition shade a few years ago.

This medium cool-toned purple with striking blue duochrome is all but boring, a gorgeous shade which only needs two layers to be completely opaque.

For the purposes of this review, I have applied three layers on both the fake nails and my own nails, just so you would see the blue duochrome better.

Hema Nail Polish in 1034 Out of Space

Out of the entire Hema nail polish range, the shade 1034 Out of Space is one of my absolute favorites.

Finding a proper, really visible and affordable duochrome in drugstore nail polish brands is close to impossible; this type of shade is one you’ll have less trouble finding in brands like Cirque or Mooncat.

Here, we have a gorgeous plum nail polish perfect for fall, with striking copper and slightly green reflects.

Two layers are enough for the multichrome to show up, although with three layers, the effect will be deeper and all in all, prettier.

Hema Nail Polish in 985 Bronzing Pearls

The only non-duochrome Hema nail polish color I’ve picked up is the shade 985 Bronzing Pearls; I currently have an obsession with brown nail polish that boast a bit of gold, and this one was a no-brainer.

Again, two layers are enough, and this soft chocolate brown polish is one that isn’t so warm-toned that it looks mismatched with my olive skin.

The tiny gold flecks bring an interesting dimension to the brown shade – easily one of my favorites for fall this year.

Hema Long Lasting Nail Polish Swatches

There’s nothing to dislike ab0out the Hema nail polish range; not only does the brand add new colors seasonally (often with special effects and holographic nail polishes!), but they also retail for 4 euros for 11 mL which, for nail polish that great, is a steal.

The brush is not too large, not too thin, with a nail polish formula that self-levels and helps you achieve a perfect look almost instantly.

They tend to last quite long on the nails as well, provided you avoid washing the dishes without gloves and opening cans of food with your nails.

I already knew that the makeup products from Hema were amazing (especially the waterproof eyeliners, eyeshadow palettes and lip liners), but I’m sold…

And I can’t wait to pop by a Hema store to complete my collection!
