Yesterday was all about my current favorite summer nail polish colors, and even if I didn’t mention either Ballet Slippers or Mademoiselle, you were able to find in my guide another gorgeous Essie sheer: Not Just a Pretty Face.

There’s something about the nude and Essie sheer nail polishes that is second to none.

The wear time, the perfect pigmentation, and that sophisticated vibe made me fall in love with sheer nail polish, and I went on to complete my collection with other brands, including the Barry M Sheer Strength range, which I love just as much.

Since Ballet Slippers and Mademoiselle are two of the best selling Essie nail polishes, and because they’re extremely similar with just one coat on, I thought a comparison would come in handy if you’re trying to choose your favorite among the two.

Here’s what Essie says about Ballet Slippers:

an eternal manicurist and fashion stylist favorite, this classic pale pink nail polish is graced with a subtle, sheer finish.

And here’s what the brand says about Mademoiselle:

say bonjour to the most classic, grown-up pink. award-winning and eternally trendy, this sheer nail polish is beloved by all.

Both of these are part of the pink Essie nail polish range – they’re sheer, but compared to colors like Limo-scene or Allure, they’re definitely on the pinker side.

The difference is that where Mademoiselle is a soft pink, Ballet Slippers has a much whiter base with a pink undertone.

Both of these are swatched with three coats so as to show the difference more accurately.

I have already written reviews about both shades, too, if you wish to see more swatches:

If I had to choose my favorite between the two, it would be pretty difficult – they might be similar with one coat, but two coats and more give a very different result.

My favorite nail polish color is white, like Essie Blanc that I love, love, love, and it just makes sense that I gravitate more towards Ballet Slippers when I’m doing a mani.

I also find Ballet Slippers to be slightly more pigmented, and less streaky than Mademoiselle, which requires a little more care when applying the second and third coats.

However, it’s pretty rare that I wear a sheer nude nail polish with more than the one coat, simply because I just want some glaze on my nails and don’t really care about the pigmentation with sheers.

It’s less important than, say, with shades like Aruba Blue, Russian Roulette, Lady Like or Eternal Optimist, which are made to be worn with their full, opaque color.

I will soon write more Essie nail polish comparison posts, which will include other popular shades from the brand such as Angora Cardi, Clothing Optional, and red nail polish comparisons as well.

As I told you yesterday, I have so many reviews planned that I feel pretty late with my publishing schedule.

However, you’ll soon see many more of them – I’m working on it!

In the meantime, why not discover some other cool colors from the brand like You Do Blue, gorgeous for spring, summer and winter, or Too Too Hot, a warm red with a beautiful coral undertone?

Until next time!
