That time of the year is back again, that all I want is to let go of my pink and coral lipsticks, and dive deep into deep purple, dark red and burgundy lipsticks – and what better brand for such colors than MAC Cosmetics?

If I’ve told you about some lighter fall MAC lipsticks some time ago, I thought a guide to maroon shades would come in handy, especially with MAC being such a good makeup brands for these colors.

Yep – I do love my mauve and nude lippies, like Thanks It’s MAC, Warm Teddy, Sweet Deal and Velvet Teddy, but there’s a feeling I have when wearing burgundy that just makes me want to go bold and statement around that time of the year.

Back when I used to work at MAC Cosmetics, two shades, when it comes to burgundy lips, would be some of the most popular MAC lipsticks I would sell; the matte shades Sin and Diva.

Not only are they great for fall, but they’re also two of the MAC lipsticks dark skin tones would purchase the most, along with the beautiful plum Rebel.

Over the years, MAC has added more burgundy shades in their Lustreglass, Powder Kiss and the new MACximal Sleek Satin range – here are the best colors to get!

Best MAC Burgundy Lipsticks: Guessing Game (MACximal Sleek Satin)

Described as a blackened Red, Guessing Game is one of the 30+ new MACximal Sleek Satin lipsticks, and a color that results just a bit lighter than the former Satin lipstick Media.

Gorgeous with the Burgundy lip liner, or even a waterproof black eyeliner underneath to make the color even deeper.

On the eyes, go for something nude or even a grunge smokey eye – a definite 90s to 2000s look, and on the nails, Essie Bordeaux, Wicked, A-List or Russian Roulette for an even cleaner red.

Revamped in the new MACximal Silky Matte range like Mehr, Whirl, or Twig Twist, Diva is the same kind of proper burgundy lipstick shade it used to be in the matte range, but even more comfortable with its thick lip balm feel on the lips.

Gorgeous with a dark MAC lip liner like Burgundy, or the brown Chestnut for a gorgeous ombre lip.

Best MAC Burgundy Lipsticks: Sin (MACximal Silky Matte)

Where the Diva lipstick is a dark red, Sin is a tad more purple and deeper-toned – a really gorgeous lip color when you want to go for a vamp effect.

Whenever I wear this type of color on the lips, I either go for a simple wing of black eyeliner or something super contrasting, like mint, coral, baby pink or pastel blue eyeshadow.

If you wanted to go for something a bit editorial, you could even go for a thick wing of bright blue eyeliner.

For a more monochrome look, I would use one of the waterproof burgundy eyeliners I love so much, smoke it out, top with eyeshadow of a similar color, and finish with some reddish brown on the nails.

Best MAC Burgundy Lipsticks: Succumb to Plum (Lustreglass)

One of the most purple burgundy lipsticks we have in this guide, the Lustreglass lipstick in Succumb to Plum is also one of the most hydrating, and sheerest shades mentioned today.

Amazing on lip liners like Vino to make it a brighter more purple or Cyber to make it even darker, Succumb to Plum is a great MAC lipstick for medium and dark skin, and looks great with some matte lavender eyeshadow and a cool-toned blush.

On the nails, why not go for a contrasting effect with periwinkle blue (I’m thinking of Revlon Get Real) or a clean white nail polish (Barry M Cotton, Essie Blanc) for a fresher effect during the fall and winter?

Described as a mid tone wine color, Dubonnet Buzz is part of the Powder Kiss range, which also offers gorgeous nude lipsticks with a creamy, powdery feel on the lips and an easily blendable formula.

Gorgeous with the lip liners in Cherry to make it redder, Plum to make it more muted mauve, or Chestnut for a brown-to-red lip combo, Dubonnet Buzz is the kind of shade you can also use as a blush on medium to dark skin tones to freshen up pretty much look.

Burning Love, like Dubonnet Buzz, is part of the Powder Kiss lipstick range, and I’ve chosen to show you this shade in case you’d like more berry in your lip color.

This one looks great with purple lip liners like Nightmoth, Vino or Cyber, and will contrast nicely with some metallic green eyeshadow – or why not wear a khaki green eyeliner roughly smoked out?

On the nails, I’d also go for a green nail polish like Essie Off Tropic, something either khaki or forest green to keep the fall vibe going, and would use Burning Love as a blush as well as on the lips.
