While I’ve been wearing a lot of red, blue and green nail polishes lately, there are a couple of really popular Essie shades I always come back to, and one of them is the famous Lady Like.

This mauve nail polish is one that can suit many different skin tones – on my fair olive skin, it looks especially gorgeous during the fall and winter, but it’s really a shade I don’t mind wearing all year round.

Compared to other nude Essie colors like Eternal Optimist or Clothing Optional, Lady Like is a true mauve, and one you have to have in your stash, especially if you’re starting out with the brand.

Why Did I Buy Essie Lady Like?

I currently own so many different nail polishes, from Essie to Barry M, Nails Inc, OPI and smaller indie brands that it’s something hard to keep track of why I purchased which in the first place.

Yet, I perfectly remember when and why I got Essie Lady Like, since it was the very first Essie nail polish I got after years of wearing almost exclusively Barry M with its incredible Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paints.

I do love my drugstore polish brands, and I guess that’s something rooted in how strongly I felt about moving to London a few years ago, and how deeply in love I fell with Superdrug and Boots.

As I’m now living between London and Rome, while living in Rome, I’ve taken the habit of treating myself to new nail polishes from my local Tigota shop every month – when I don’t get new Layla Cosmetics polishes, it’s Essie.

And the first one I got after many Essie-less years, was Lady Like.

I simply wanted a beautiful, soft mauve nail polish to wear on the daily, one that wouldn’t be high maintenance, and one that would only require a couple of coats to be completely opaque.

Bingo.

The Essie Lady Like nail polish is one whose formula is smooth, and applies evenly from the first coat – the color, oscillating between mauve and slightly brown, makes for a perfect nude nail polish whatever the time of the year.

Essie Lady Like Nail Polish: Would I Buy Again?

I have to admit that this year, I have almost emptied my Essie Lady Like bottle, and am already planning on getting a new one as soon as I run out.

In the meantime, I’ve purchased lots of other nudes, including some famous sheer Essie nail polishes like Mademoiselle, Ballet Slippers and Not Just a Pretty Face.

But while I do love sheer nail polish, it’s not the same as having a sophisticated mauve shade on my nails, especially during the colder months.

However, something to note, which feels important to me, is that the Lady Like nail polish is indeed mauve, but not so cool-toned that it would feel mismatched for spring or summer.

I have a feeling that no matter what your skin tone is, the Essie Lady Like nail polish could be one of the best purchases you’ll ever make – I know that’s how I feel.

It seems like the kind of nude nail polish that would just look good on anyone whether their skin tone is dark, pale, or simply fair.

I have other shades in my stash that look a teeny, tiny bit like Lady Like with a slight difference in hue or undertone.

Eternal Optimist that I mentioned earlier, or Angora Cardi, feel like the continuity of the Lady Like color if you respectively want something more brown and something darker!
