Are most of them neutral nail polishes?

Yes.

Do I plan on stopping getting new nude colors from OPI, though?

Absolutely not.

In this guide, I want to show you some of my current favorite OPI nail polishes, from the very sheer Bare My Soul to the rich chocolate brown Espresso Your Inner Self.

Who knows, maybe you’ll find new favorites!

The more I use OPI nail polishes, the more they grow on me.

If, years and even months ago, I had trouble finding my technique to use the rather thin brush in the OPI polishes, it seems things have finally clicked for me.

And if my favorites are still mostly the OPI sheers, I do love the nude and brown colors – I thought Essie had more neutrals, but OPI defends itself quite well!

What I say:

Bare My Soul is an exquisite sheer nail polish I reach for quite often, alongside Passion and Put It in Neutral.

The color is very beige and desaturated, which means that whether you have medium, dark or pale skin, Bare My Soul should look stunning on you.

OPI Mimosas for Mr & Mrs Swatch

What OPI says about the Mimosas for Mr & Mrs nail polish:

Pink with a touch of peach

What I say:

Mimosas for Mr & Mrs is one of the most popular nude OPI nail polish colors, and one of my favorites as well.

I don’t usually go for beige nail polishes, although I do have plenty, and the description, pink with a touch of peach, is really accurate.

The only downside is the color is quite sheer, requiring three coats to full opacity, but it’s really a gorgeous color from spring to winter.

OPI Barefoot in Barcelona Swatch

What OPI says about the Barefoot in Barcelona nail polish:

A luscious shade of nude nail polish with a Spanish “sole.”

What I say:

Barefoot in Barcelona is a color I’d been eyeing for quite some time before I finally got it – on the same day I got You Don’t Know Jacques, if I recall well.

I was in my really neutral, nude and mauve phase, and the mix of brown and red in Barefoot in Barcelona makes it a must-have in most people’s stashes.

It’s interesting to note that Barefoot in Barcelona and Essie Eternal Optimist are almost dupes, if you’re into Essie nail polishes.

The only difference is that Eternal Optimist is a bit lighter and a tad less brown; they’re otherwise almost identical.

OPI Bonfire Serenade Swatch

What OPI says about the Bonfire Serenade nail polish:

A crème brown nail polish that embodies the spirit of fire-side guitar strums.

What I say:

Now, there are some really pretty brown OPI nail polishes out there – even more than brown Essie nail polishes, which I collect and purchase as soon as I can get my hands on a new color.

Bonfire Serenade is one such a pretty brown color, and one you could almost mistake for You Don’t Know Jacques.

The difference is that You Don’t Know Jacques is more mauve and just a little darker.

Another color to compare Bonfire Serenade to is Squeaker of the House which, this time, is a darker brown with similar undertones.

OPI Espresso Your Inner Self Swatch

What OPI says about the Espresso Your Inner Self nail polish:

Bring out your inner artist with a deep espresso brown nail polish.

What I say:

It’s not easy to find a proper, rich chocolate brown nail polish – I really dug into it last fall, when I wanted a sophisticated brown, and found all about Espresso Your Inner Self.

Now, if you’re into that mocha mousse nails trend, you’ll love Espresso Your Inner Self.

It’s swatched here with three coats like all the other neutrals shown today, and a perfect color to mix with white for a milk chocolate effect, or some soft gold (Essie Buy Me a Cameo) for a rich finish.

OPI Tickle My France-y Swatch

What OPI says about the Tickle My France-y nail polish:

In this naughty shade of nude nail polish.

What I say:

If Tickle My France-y is described as a naughty nude, I’d go as far as saying it’s just a proper mauve nail polish, period.

If you compared Tickle My France-y and Essie Lady Like, another famous mauve nail color, you’d find that the OPI nail polish has more purple undertones, where Lady Like is a tad more brown and muted.

I like Tickle My France-y: on my fair olive skin, it’s a gorgeous little everyday color, and easy to apply since, like most polishes here, it’s almost opaque in just one coat.

OPI You Don’t Know Jacques Swatch

What OPI says about the You Don’t Know Jacques nail polish:

If you don’t know how trendy this taupe is!

What I say:

Tickle My France-y and You Don’t Know Jacques are often compared and mistaken for one another; that was my case when I wasn’t so familiar with OPI products.

Well, You Don’t Know Jacques is much cooler-toned, much darker, and a little more brown than Tickle My France-y.

It’s a gorgeous, dark nail color for the fall and winter time, but I like using You Don’t Know Jacques for nail designs on top of sheer nail polishes as well.
