As time goes by, I keep writing about some of the MAC MACximal lipsticks I purchased a few months ago, and the more I write about them, the more I feel how important it is for me to show comparisons.

Twig Twist, for instance, is a new shade from the MACximal Silky Matte lipstick range (not to be mistaken for the new MACximal Sleek Satin lipsticks released a few weeks ago) which replaces the former Twig lipstick from the Satin range.

I’ve already written some more reviews with lipstick comparisons about other popular MAC lipsticks, including Mehr, Velvet Teddy, Honeylove and Cafe Mocha – today’s all about Twig Twist.

Since the former Twig lipstick was one of the most popular shades ever at MAC, I was a little bit surprised when I saw that its formula/color had been revamped.

Bold move is what I’m thinking.

And then, when I saw a few weeks ago the new MAC Cosmetics drop, MACximal Sleek Satin, I was even more surprised that Twig had been revamped into a matte lipstick rather than with its classic satin finish.

Well, while us human beings don’t like change very much, I liked seeing that MAC was making a big move again, of the kind of big moves I hadn’t seen from them since my time working there, a couple of years ago.

MAC Twig Twist Lipstick: What Makes It Different?

Described as a soft muted brownish pink, Twig Twist is an interesting shade to have in one’s stash whether you have cool skin, olive skin like me, or a warmer skin tone.

Its mid tone color means that whether you’re on the fairer side of the spectrum or more medium skin-toned, you can easily wear it, and using MAC lip liners such as Half Red, Soar, or even darker shades like Plum or Chestnut can help darker skin tones use Twig Twist.

Then, let’s talk a bit about the formula – Twist Twist has the same creamy, oh-so-creamy, yet soft matte finish that feels overly comfortable on the lips, like a thick lip balm.

The first shade I ever tried from the MACximal Silky Matte lipstick range, when I purchased my lippies, was Captive Audience.

Well, seeing that it didn’t feather, didn’t budge, and offered a completely matte lip for hours made me fall in love with the MACximal range – the brighter and lighter shades are just as comfortable and long lasting, from Twig Twist shown here to Honeylove, Forever Curious, Viva Planet or Whirl.

MAC Soar lip liner: Soar gives a slightly more mauve, warmer-toned lip and enhances the brown undertone of the Twig Twist lipstick
MAC Half Red lip liner: Half Red, one of my favorite MAC lip liners ever, will give a more mauve/purple and darker result with Twig Twist – still wearable on the daily for medium/dark skin

There you have it, my complete review of the MAC Twig Twist lipstick with swatches, lip combos and lipstick comparison swatches – hopefully, it’ll have helped you decide if you’d like to treat yourself to it.

In my experience, Twig Twist is great for pretty much any fair skin tone, and quite easy to wear on the daily, especially if you’d like to wear something a little stronger on the eyes, like a bold purple eyeliner wing or a smokey eye.

On the nails, I’d either go for Sugar Daddy, one of my favorite sheer Essie nail polishes, or maybe Barry M Sheer Bliss.

If, however, you’d like something more fall-toned, I’ve recently told you about a few favorite fall Essie nail colors, including Mrs Always Right, which would pair amazingly with the Twig Twist lipstick!
