What’s amazing about the matte MAC lipsticks, whether from the new MACximal range or the Powder Kiss lipsticks, is their incredible range of colors.

Whether you’re looking for an ultra-nude lipstick, a bright red or more of a fall MAC shade, you’re bound to find it.

And if there’s a popular shade that’s been on every makeup addict’s lips for years, it has to be the Velvet Teddy lipstick.

Since the classic matte Velvet Teddy has been revamped in the new MACximal lipstick formula, I thought I complete review would come in handy to anyone interested in that particular shade.

Here’s how this review is structured:

  • What makes Velvet Teddy different and who it’s most suitable for
  • Two possible lip liner combos with Velvet Teddy
  • Comparison of Velvet Teddy vs Warm Teddy and the former Velvet Teddy lipstick

MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick: What Makes It Different?

Described as a deep tone beige, Velvet Teddy is a really popular MAC lipstick for several reasons:

  • the mix of beige, brown and pink in the shade make it suitable for lots of skin tones
  • the matte finish is long lasting
  • the color is ultra pigmented

As a fair olive skin toned person (I wear NW15 in MAC foundation), I find that Velvet Teddy is a great MAC lipstick for olive skin, but also fair skin and medium skin.

If you have Indian skin, neutral or cool skin, this is also a perfect everyday shade.

The use or not of a lip liner depends on whether you want/need to create a lip combo to make it work on your skin tone.

Indeed, for pale or fair skin, you can get away with using the Velvet Teddy lipstick on its own, while on darker skin tones, you might want to use a MAC lip liner like Whirl, Soar, or for deeper skin tones, Chestnut, Plum, or even Vino.

MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick: Lip Combos

Above is the Velvet Teddy lipstick swatch along with two possible lip combos:

  • The Soar lip liner will enhance the mauve undertone to the lipstick, and create a deeper outline for a more 3D effect
  • The Whirl lip liner, with its more brown color, will only add a little bit of depth, and enhance the slightly brown undertone of Velvet Teddy

MAC MACximal Velvet Teddy vs Warm Teddy vs Velvet Teddy (Matte)

Since the review is focused on the MACximal Velvet Teddy lipstick, I thought swatches of both the former, classic matte lipstick and the new Warm Teddy lipstick would come in handy.

  • MACximal Velvet Teddy vs classic Velvet Teddy: The new Velvet Teddy shade is pinker, lighter, and slightly brighter
  • MACximal Velvet Teddy vs Warm Teddy: Velvet Teddy is pinker and slightly lighter, where Warm Teddy is much more of a nude brown lipstick, a new shade that would almost remind you of the former Whirl lipstick

Hopefully, this review of the Velvet Teddy lipstick, along with lip liner combos and comparison between Velvet Teddy (former shade) and Warm Teddy will have been useful in your search for the perfect nude lipstick.

Even if the new MACximal Velvet Teddy is now pinker, it’s still a great everyday shade to wear to the office, to the uni, or whatnot.

Then, if you’re looking for some other kind of everyday color, other nude MAC lipsticks to check out, which I love, are also the Sweet Deal lipstick, more mauve, and the Honeylove lipstick, much lighter and perfect for lip combos.
