Love me some good old red nails – as summer comes around, when I’m not wearing some duochrome or pastel nail polish, I’m one to go towards coral red.
Not too orange, though, since it can quickly look mismatched on my olive skin, in the same way that yellow-toned foundation does.
And that’s where the Essie Too Too Hot nail polish comes into play; it’s one of my latest reddish coral nail polish purchases, and one I’ve enjoyed wearing recently on its own and for nail art.
Red Nails: Essie Too Too Hot Nail Polish Swatches

Here’s what Essie says about the Too Too Hot nail polish:
set your heart on fire with this sizzling rich red coral nail polish. how hot is too hot? there’s only one way to find out.
Why Did I Buy Essie Too Too Hot?

Like many of my Essie nail polish colors, I first saw the Too Too Hot shade in a local beauty shop, Tigota, when I was still living in Rome.
When I reviewed the Kiko Power Pro Nail Lacquer 239 Minty Frost some time ago, I told you that my plans were to spend a couple of months in Paris, and then to move back to Rome.

I’m French, and while I lived in Paris and loved/hated it for five years before I left for London, then Rome, Barcelona, Istanbul and Rome again, it makes sense to come back from time to time, if only to know where to go from there.
Anyhoo – Rome is where I purchased the Too Too Hot nail polish, and I actually had the toughest time deciding between this one, A List and Fifth Avenue – but with its coral undertones perfect for summer, I knew that was a shade I wanted in my stash.

Essie Too Too Hot Nail Polish: Application and Thoughts

The Essie nail polish formula tends to be a tad more liquid than, say, the Kiko Power Pro Nail Lacquer or Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine nail polishes.

Two coats are often enough to cover the nail perfectly, but I find myself, especially with the dark and sheer nail polishes, applying three coats more often than not.
When it comes to the Too Too Hot nail polish, two coats are definitely enough, and with the fast drying formula, this is a color I don’t mind wearing over and over again, because it’s just not a hassle to apply.

The color strongly leans towards coral, so whether you have fair skin, Asian skin or dark skin, that’s a shade which can look absolutely dapper during the summer.

Essie Too Too Hot Nail Polish: Would I Buy Again?

I actually find myself reaching out more for the Russian Roulette nail polish than for the Too Too Hot one as I’m more into proper red nail polishes, let’s start there.
I would personally not buy the Too Too Hot nail polish again if given the choice, as there are other coral nail polishes in the Essie range that, when I think about it, are more attractive to me.
For instance, Peach Daiquiri and Cute as a Button are two of the Essie coral nail polishes I’ve recently purchased that provide more of a contrast with other reddish shades I have in my stash.
In terms of quality, pigmentation, application and lasting power, though, there’s nothing that would deter me from getting Too Too Hot – it’s really just a matter of taste in color.

Comparing Essie Red Nail Polishes: Too Too Hot vs Russian Roulette

I thought comparing Russian Roulette and Too Too Hot here would help you better see the difference between these two reds.
The difference is there, definitely, and if you’re looking for something neither too red, nor too coral, Too Too Hot is a good pick.

That’s about it, really – if you’re looking for gorgeous summer nail polish colors, Too Too Hot is one I’d recommend, especially because of the full coverage of the nail in two coats.
My tastes in nail polish shades change pretty much every week, and while I was really into blue nail polish recently, namely with Aruba Blue and You Do Blue, these days, I’m way more into mint nails and other pastel hues.
Until next time!
