One of the most popular Essie nail polish colors, Eternal Optimist is one I got a few months ago when I felt like wearing more warm nude nail colors.

At that point, I was almost only wearing mauve nail polishes, like Lady Like and Angora Cardi, and while they suit my olive skin so well, I really wanted to give a chance to a warmer-toned Essie shade.

Here’s what Essie says about the Eternal Optimist nail polish:

the future looks brilliant in warm, spiced rose nail polish. steeped in sunshine, this lacquer serves up a glass that’s always half-full.

Why Did I Buy Essie Eternal Optimist?

If my memory serves me right, I was in London when I purchased Eternal Optimist, which I got at the same time as Buy Me a Cameo and Birthday Girl.

From what I can see, looking back, it just feels like I wanted to get lots of pink and nude nail polishes, which is exactly what I did, and also got a few Nails Inc Caught in the Nude colors, alongside the Barry M Sheer Strength polishes too.

If you’ve been here before, then you know that my tastes in nail colors change very fast.

A few months ago, I was all about really mint green nail polishes, which of course, include a favorite of mine, Kiko Power Pro 239 Minty Frost.

Then, my love for sheer pink nails, which was only budding last year, started getting stronger, and deeper – that’s when I got most of the Essie sheers, like Mademoiselle, Sugar Daddy, or Vanity Fairest, all of which I’ve already reviewed here.

As I said earlier, what I wanted when I purchased the Eternal Optimist nail polish was something warmer, something a bit more brown, maybe, than my classic, go-to mauve shades.

Essie Eternal Optimist Nail Polish: Application and Thoughts

What I can say for sure is that Eternal Optimist applies like a dream – two coats and you’re good to go.

The color oscillates between beige, pink and brown, and it feels like the brand is spot-on with its description of a warm, spiced rose nail polish.

This almost feels like a ‘my nails but better’ type of color, that I can see suiting medium to dark skin and warm skin tones the best – very sophisticated, with an ‘I’m here but not really’ kind of vibe.

Essie Eternal Optimist Nail Polish: Would I Buy Again?

Appreciating the color does not mean I would buy the Essie Eternal Optimist nail polish again.

In my experience, the lasting power is great, about 4 to 6 days like most of my Essie nail polishes, but I just cannot with the color, when the subtly warm undertone looks slightly mismatched on my olive skin.

Which is why, if given the opportunity to purchase Eternal Optimist again, I would not.

So, what would I get otherwise?

It’s really just a matter of taste in color, and how it looks on me that makes me state I wouldn’t get Eternal Optimist again – I’m sure it would suit many other skin tones, but it’s not really my vibe in the end.

I rather go for really light pink nail polishes, like Ballet Slippers and Mademoiselle lately, and I feel like if I had to wear something that almost had a coral undertone to it, it would be in a sheerer version, like Not Just a Pretty Face.
